Nudism is an increasingly popular practice, with dedicated communities popping up across Spain where residents can bare all and feel comfortable communing with nature. As a result, more and more beaches can now be found that permit this unique style of bathing and many are truly authentic paradises of white sand and crystalline waters.

Here, we’ve rounded up the 10 most famous nudist beaches in Spain.

1. Torimbia Beach, Llanes

This spectacular cove in Asturias offers ultimate privacy, sheltered by towering cliffs. It’s been a popular spot for nudists since the 1960s and this shell-shaped beach topped with golden sand hasn’t lost its appeal over the years.

2. Barronal Beach, Nijar

This 800-metre stretch in Almeria is a perfectly untouched beach bordered on all sides by stunning cliff faces. Bathers can also meander through a surrounding path to several other smaller coves.

3. Playa de Figueiras, Cies Islands

Widely considered one of the best nudist beaches in all of Spain, the Cies Islands are located off the coast of Galicia and were declared a Nature Reserve in 1980. This wild enclave is 350 metres long and 50 metres wide and its white sand and turquoise waters attract people from all walks of life.

4. Chorrito Beach, Cadiz

Chorrito is a tiny corner of the wider Bolonia beach in the Andalucían municipality of Cadiz. Quite different from other enclaves on the Mediterranean coast, this nudist cove offers perfect privacy and the added attraction of its own therapeutic mud baths.

5. Maspalomas, Gran Canaria

Considered not only one of the must-visit beaches in Gran Canaria, but also one of the best in Spain, this beautiful and extensive coastline of golden sands and crystal clear waters has a small area for nudists between Playa del Inglés and the Maspalomas Lighthouse.

6. Els Muntanyans, Tarragona

Situated in the town of Torredembarra, not far from Barcelona, 200 meters of this 200 kilometre beach have been cordoned off for nudists. Visitors will need to park near the Cal Bofill Environmental Activities Centre and take a footbridge that runs behind the impressive sand dunes to reach the Els Muntanyans nudist section, which is clearly signposted.

7. Sonabia Beach, Cantabria

Sonabia is one of Spain’s first nudist beaches and this stunning cove is surrounded by two hills, one of which is uniquely shaped like a whale. Today, its isolated position and bohemian atmosphere continue to draw bathers from all over the country.

8. El Torn Beach, Hospitalet del Infante

El Torn is widely considered to be one of the top beaches for nudism in the country, thanks in no small part to the efforts of the Association of Friends of Torn Naturist Beach, who have been managing its upkeep for years. An added advantage is that this enclave is right beside the naturist campsite, El Templo del Sol.

9. Valdearenas Beach, Cantabria

Valdearenas Beach is the largest in Liencres and is located in an area of extraordinary beauty, the Liencres Dunes Natural Park. In high season, nudists tend to settle towards the end of the beach, near the mouth of the Pas River.

10. Cala Macaralleta, Menorca

We’re moving over to the Balearic Islands for number 10, to the idyllic Mediterranean landscape of La Macaralleta cove. This secluded sandy paradise is located on the Ciutadella coast and despite its remote location, it can often be packed during the summer months.
