Andalucía steps up storm aid as Grazalema urges faster road repairs
Fresh funding will support farmers and towns hit by the storms, while local leaders say road work cannot wait
Andalucía is putting more money on the table to help communities still dealing with the aftermath of the recent storms, while the mayor of Grazalema is pressing the Junta to speed up road repairs before Holy Week gets fully under way. Together, the latest measures show just how wide the impact of the weather has been, from farms and livestock to roads and tourism. The Junta de Andalucía has approved another €35 million in aid for those affected across the region, on top of support already announced. Cádiz will receive the largest share, with just over €10 million, and Grazalema is set to benefit from more than €2 million of that total.
Elsewhere, Almería will get €1.4 million, Córdoba almost €3 million, Granada €5.1 million, Jaén €6 million, Málaga €3.2 million, Seville €3.3 million and Huelva €2 million.
At the same time, the regional government has activated €685 million in direct aid for farmers hit by the storms that struck between late 2025 and early 2026. The package is split into three lines and is funded entirely from the Junta de Andalucía’s own resources. Officials say the aim is to restore productive capacity and make up for losses caused by flooding, landslides and damage to irrigation systems, greenhouses, rural buildings and farm access roads.
The first line, worth €500 million, is aimed at farms in areas declared severely affected. A second line of €110 million is for producers outside those areas, or inside them if they can prove significant losses. The third, worth €75 million, is for extensive livestock farmers registered in REGA as of January 1 2026.
The Junta says the aid is “essential for restoring the economic viability of the affected farms in Andalucía,” and notes that payments may have to be prorated if demand exceeds the available budget.
In the Sierra de Cádiz, the road situation remains one of the most immediate concerns. Grazalema’s mayor, Carlos Javier García, said he is “extremely concerned about the general state of the roads in the Sierra” and called on the Junta to “expedite everything possible” so normal connections can be restored. Almost two months after the storms, roads such as the A-372 remain closed in sections, with other problems still affecting the A-7276, CA-9104, CA-9113, CA-9108 and CA-9118.
With Semana Santa having now begun, the mayor said the situation is limiting access for visitors and affecting local tourism and trade.
Together, the new measures underline just how wide the impact of the storms has been, and how much still needs to be repaired across Andalucía.
