Massive city beaches, unbeaten sightseeing and fun events calendar help Cádiz set new tourism record in 2024
The historic city welcomed over 300,000 visitors last year, with hotel stays reaching nearly 800,000
Cádiz has achieved a record-breaking year for tourism, with more people staying in the city than ever before. For the first time, the number of visitors choosing to stay overnight in Cádiz surpassed 300,000, reaching a total of 317,626 guests in 2024.
This represents a significant rise from the 283,732 visitors recorded in 2023. In total, nearly 800,000 overnight stays were registered in the city’s hotels, cementing Cádiz’s position as one of Spain’s most sought-after destinations.
This historic city, often called the ‘Tacita de Plata’ or ‘Silver Cup’, continues to attract visitors with its unique blend of history, culture and coastal beauty. As the oldest city in Western Europe, Cádiz boasts a rich heritage that dates back to its founding by the Phoenicians around 3,000 years ago.
It also played a pivotal role in Spain’s political history, as it was here in 1812 that the country’s first constitution, known as ‘La Pepa’, was signed.
The city’s charming old town, with its narrow streets, lively plazas and striking architecture, remains a major draw. Iconic landmarks include the grand Cádiz Cathedral with its golden dome, the impressive Tavira Tower with its panoramic views, and the vibrant Mercado Central, a paradise for food lovers.
Visitors can also enjoy La Caleta beach, which, aside from being a picturesque spot to watch the sunset, gained international fame when it was featured in the James Bond film Die Another Day.
Cádiz’s growing popularity is also reflected in hotel prices. In December, the average cost of a hotel room in the city exceeded that of other major Spanish tourist destinations. This trend highlights Cádiz’s increasing appeal among travellers looking for an authentic and memorable experience.
The surge in visitor numbers has been driven by a combination of factors, including improved tourism promotion and the city’s reputation as a vibrant, welcoming destination. Whether it’s the lively atmosphere of the annual Carnival, the fresh seafood served in local tapas bars, or the charm of its historic streets, Cádiz offers something special for every traveller.
With such a successful year behind it, the city is set to continue growing as a must-visit destination in Spain.
