Murcia 2024 tourism surge sets the stage for record-breaking 2025
The Region of Murcia is aiming to attract at least 2 million holidaymakers this year
The Region of Murcia has big plans to attract even more holidaymakers in 2025 following another record-breaking year. This was announced by regional president Fernando López Miras at the FITUR event in Madrid last week, who revealed that the goal is to reach 2 million visitors and 6 million overnight stays in the next 12 months.
Murcia is definitely on the right track, but there’s still lots of work to do. At the end of 2024, a whopping 1.4 million tourists had landed in the Region, a year-on-year increase of 7% and a brand new record.
As is usually the case, Spanish tourists have been the most enamoured with Murcia, representing 77% of the total, which translates into 1.16 million people, 6% more than in 2023. Still, an impressive 340,000 foreigners booked into hotels in the Region during 2024, almost a 10% increase.
Summer was naturally the busiest season and 170,000 holidaymakers descended during August, by far the most popular month. However, the rest of the year maintained more than respectable figures, as every month exceeded 100,000 visitors except for January, February and December, the latter two being just short of breaking this barrier.
In terms of overnights, hotel stays rose by 7.7% to hit 3.44 million during 2024. Once again, domestic visitors topped the list, accounting for 71% of the total.
The average daily rate for hotels in the Region of Murcia has been set at an average of 71.64 euros during 2024, which represents an increase of 5%, while revenue per available room (RevPar) has been 41.30 euros, an increase of 8%.
During the month of December alone, overnight stays in hotels grew by 5.1% compared to 2023, concluding eight consecutive months of steady growth.
In total, Murcia reached 38.48% occupancy in December and the hotel sector employed 1,570 people (an increase of 9.6% year-on-year).
