Murcia faces a holiday drought this autumn - but there’s still plenty to do
No weekday holidays until December, but the region is bursting with events, traditions and free activities

Hispanic Heritage Day, usually celebrated on October 12, lands on a Sunday this year, and unlike some other regions, Murcia won’t shift it to the following Monday. To add to that, All Saints’ Day on Saturday November 1 and Constitution Day on Saturday December 6 also miss out on weekday holiday status, leaving three months with no midweek days off.
But while the calendar might look bare, Murcia’s autumn is packed with culture, tourism and local traditions.
The official tourism portal is inviting everyone to discover what it calls “Autumn’s Best Kept Secret.” This campaign highlights some standout seasonal experiences: scenic hiking along the Greenways, soaking in hot springs beneath the night sky, and joining wine-tasting tours on the ACEVIN-certified routes in Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla.
With grape harvest season underway, it’s an ideal time to sample the area’s local reds, whites and rosés, each with its own distinct character.
The autumn months also bring a lively round of festivals. October kicks off with patron saint celebrations in Alhama, Puerto Lumbreras and Torre Pacheco, while November sees Lorca’s festival honouring San Clemente. Yecla’s historic Fiesta de la Purísima begins on Friday December 5, which is another chance to dive into local pride and tradition.
Young people haven’t been left out either. The Ayuntamiento de Murcia has revived its free activity programme for those aged 12 to 30, offering everything from theatre and cooking workshops to kayaking, fencing, self-defence, hiking and painting classes.
Social media is also buzzing with autumn travel tips, from enchanted forests and medieval villages just outside the region, to local flea markets full of crafts and food. Whether sticking close to home or venturing a little further, there’s no shortage of ideas for weekends packed with fun, flavour and culture.
So while the run of missed holidays might put a dent in your plans for a weekday escape, Murcia itself offers more than enough to keep spirits high this autumn - no day off required.
