The cheapest place to live by the beach on the Costa Blanca
There are houses for sale from €53,000 in this area within the Vega Baja
There is one city in the Vega Baja that has the lowest housing prices on the whole of the Costa Blanca, and with 89,290 inhabitants it is also home to 122 different nationalities.
With the housing market at an all-time high in Spanish cities and coastal towns, a move to the beach seems out of reach for many people. According to data from the real estate portal idealista, the average price of housing in the city of Alicante is 2,133 euros in August 2024, with a year-on-year evolution of +17.2%.
Faced with this reality, many families choose to move to inland municipalities, or seek out the few remaining coastal towns which are still within a reasonable financial range.
Torrevieja is one such municipality that is still affordable, and on the coast. In fact, the town was ranked as the most affordable coastal city in all of Spain.
Housing in Torrevieja
According to the latest data from idealista, the average price of housing in Torrevieja stands at €1,979/m2 , with an evolution of +11.1% compared to August 2023. Among the cheapest areas to live in Torrevieja are: the centre (€1,558/m2), Playa del Cura (€1,842/m2) and La Siesta - El Salado - Torreta (€1,886/m2).
Among the most expensive areas, the following stand out: Los Balcones - Los Altos del Edén (€2,432/m2), Playa de los Locos (€2,331/m2) and El Acequión - Los Naúfragos (€2,177/m2).
The real estate portal idealista currently has more than 6,100 houses and apartments for sale in Torrevieja, with options ranging from 34,600 euros to 1.2 million euros.
A studio measuring 30 square metres can be had for €53,000 still in Torrevieja, while a one bedroom studio of 40 square metres with views of the lagoon can be had for €56,000.
Furthermore, in this area of Alicante a wide range of nationalities can be found. Of the 89,290 inhabitants there are 122 different nationalities that live in the area.
Ukrainian citizens are the most prevalent residents in the municipal census, with 6,939 registered residents, ahead of Russia (5,540) and the United Kingdom (4,910). Citizens of Spanish origin represent 51.9%.
The Torrevieja City Council believe the area is so special because of “its 14km of coastline, an average annual temperature of 18ºC and low rainfall throughout the year, in addition to the uniqueness of 52% of the municipality being a Natural Park.”
