The recovery of an old wall shows where a mediaeval city once stood
The work is an outstanding example of Lorca’s line of action for the recovery of the historic centre
Lorca’s Councillor for Urban Planning, María Hernández, has announced the approval of the acquisition of a property on Cava Street affected by Tower No. 9 and Curtain No. 13.Hernández has reported that the Council has managed to take another step towards the recovery and preservation of our historical heritage.
Hernández stated, “The City Council is moving forward with a firm step to recover sections of wall and towers, which will allow us to recover the history of our city and show part of the layout of Lorca as a mediaeval city.”
This intervention, continues Hernández, “has been expressly attended to by the mayor, Fulgencio Gil, who has already described the action as an action of the highest priority, based on its positive impact on the enclave.”
This example of action taken by the council of Lorca speaks to their interest in recovering the historic centre of the city. The medieval wall was originally made up of large stone walls to which towers were attached. “However, the passage of time and the progress of the city caused this wall to be framed by constructions that ended up hiding it.”
Hernández concluded her speech by stating, “We are taking a significant step towards the revitalisation of an emblematic area of our city. By being able to place Tower 9 and Curtain 13 on the route within a project that fundamentally seeks to enhance the hidden 280 metres of the fortified enclosure.”
