The Region of Murcia is the ninth most searched for destination by Britons this Christmas
Flights into Murcia are also up by 4.2% compared to last year, although the airport quietened down considerably last month
The Region of Murcia continues to be the destination of choice for holidaymakers from the UK, who are usually at the very top of the total ranking of visitors. This enduring trend has just been highlighted by Jetcost, a flight and hotel search engine specialising in British and Dutch tourists.
The data shows that the majority of searches for flights between December 26, 2023 and January 4, 2024, made by Europeans centred around Murcia, which is the eight most popular choice for tourists from the Netherlands and the ninth most in-demand with the British.
In addition, searches for flights for the end of 2023 have increased by 20%, while searches for hotels have increased by 24% compared to 2022 . And a large number of Europeans who want to spend Christmas abroad are opting for Spain, since flights and accommodation are much cheaper than other holiday destinations like Italy, Portugal and France.
When it comes to Murcia, the entire year has been a roaring success, and this can be seen in the airport data alone: between January and November, the Region of Murcia International Airport in Corvera handled a total of 848,816 passengers, which is a growth of 4.3% on the same period in 2022.
However, if we just look at the month of November, passenger numbers actually fell by 11.8%, but according to the experts, this is most likely due to the beginning of the winter season and the corresponding reduction of routes.
Of the 23,917 passengers who passed through the doors of Murcia Airport last month, 20,758 were international travellers while domestic traffic accounted for just 2,479.
