These are the Spanish beaches that welcome dogs this summer

In Spain, the number of coastal cities that allow dogs on the beaches is increasing

Every year, thousands of people hit the Spanish coast in search of a beach and a refreshing, cooling swim. But it’s not just us humans who suffer in the sun; our furry friends feel the heat too and finding a dog-friendly beach can be a real headache for so many visitors.

The good news for Fido is that more and more coastal cities are allowing dogs on their beaches these days, although in many places it’s still restricted to certain hours of the day, especially during peak season.

Luckily, the website RedCanina.es compiles a map of these locations each year to make it easier for families travelling with their pets.

At a glance, we can see that the Valencian Community and Andalucía are leading the race, with towns like Torrevieja, Alboraya and Torrox perfectly happy to welcome both you and your canine companion.

Moreover, since the Coastal Law was amended a few years ago to restrict dog access to beaches during the high season, several municipalities have taken the initiative to create designated pets-permitted areas.

Dog-friendly beaches updated in 2025

Catalonia is a benchmark for dog-friendly beaches. It was a pioneer in creating dog-friendly beaches and remains one of the regions with the most pet-friendly spaces in the country. Municipalities such as Sitges, Barcelona, Cubelles, Arenys de Mar and Pineda de Mar already have dozens dog-friendly areas for the summer of 2025.

Further south, the Valencian Community has dog beaches along the entire coast, making it one of the regions that has most invested in pet-friendly tourism. In 2025, you can find numerous dog-friendly beaches spread across Alicante, Valencia and Castellón. Below is the updated list by province:

Alicante: Caleta dels Gossets (Santa Pola), Punta del Riu (El Campello), Barranc d’Aigües (El Campello), Vilera del Xarco (Villajoyosa), Agua Amarga (Alicante), Mar y Montaña (Altea), Cala Rocío (Torrevieja), Cala Les Urques (Calpe) and la Cala Cabo Peñas - Mosca II (Orihuela).
Valencia: Playa de Pinedo (Valencia), Playa La Torreta – Santa Elvira (El Puig) and la Playa canina de Alboraya.
Castellón: Les Llanetes (Vinaròs), Aiguaoliva (Vinaròs), Boca del Riu (Vinaròs), L’Estany – Punta Capicorb (Alcossebre), Belcaire (Moncófar), El Barranquet (Benicarló) and la La Renegà (Oropesa del Mar).

Andalucía also has several dog-friendly beaches, although they have specific regulations that not everyone is happy about: swimming by humans is prohibited in many of these areas. This is due to a resolution by the Andalucían Regional Government prohibiting dogs from being allowed on beaches suitable for human bathing during the summer season.

Fortunately, some municipalities have found a loophole and have created spaces where human bathing is not permitted, but bathing for our furry friends is. Here's a list of these by province:

Málaga: Arroyo Totalán (Málaga capital), Playa del Castillo (Fuengirola), Playa Piedra Paloma (Casares), Playa Canina de Torre del Mar, Playa El Pinillo and Playa Ventura de Mar (Marbella), Playa canina de Torrox y Arroyo Hondo (Benalmádena).
Almería: Playa de la Rana (Adra) and El Bobar (Almería capital).
Granada: El Cable (Motril) and La Veintiuna (Almuñécar).
Cádiz: Dog zone at Playa de Camposoto (San Fernando) and la Playa de la Concha (Algeciras).
Huelva: Playa El Espigón (Huelva), Playa de la Gola (Isla Cristina) and la Ría de Punta Umbría.
Córdoba: Playa de Valdearenas (Iznájar).

Another area with plenty of pet-friendly beaches is the Region of Murcia, which has six. Here’s the list:

Region of Murcia: Las Moreras (Mazarrón), El Gachero (Mazarrón), Cobaticas (Mazarrón), La Cañada del Negro y Cala de Mijo (Águilas), La Calera (Cartagena) Las Salinas (Los Alcázares).
