Águilas hosts exclusive opera preview for people with disabilities
Disability groups and students were treated to a free preview of Giuseppe Verdi's ‘Il Trovatore’

On Friday February 14, the prestigious Opera 2001 company brought its captivating production of Giuseppe Verdi's ‘Il Trovatore’ to the Auditorium in Águilas, treating the sold-out audience to an unforgettable evening of music, passion and drama.
The performance was a testament to the company's 30-year legacy, having recently premiered at the renowned Massy Opera in Paris on January 16, 2025.
The tragic love story, which débuted in 1853, tells the tale of Manrico, a Spanish troubadour whose love for Leonora is threatened by the noble Count Luna, amidst a dark family past that binds the protagonists together in a devastating way.
Verdi's iconic work is celebrated for its powerful music and gripping narrative, making it a timeless classic that continues to enthral audiences worldwide.
What made this event even more special was the exclusive preview held earlier that day for members of the Águilas Mental Health Association (AFEMAC) and Fundown (Down syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia), as well as students from local high schools.
This unique initiative, offered free of charge, provided an opportunity for these groups to experience the magic of opera in an intimate setting. According to Councillor for Culture, José Antonio Consentino, this is just the beginning:
“We plan to continue offering these special classical music events, so that associations and students can attend these previews that bring them closer to classical works.”
