Alicante Airport is getting a fast-track lane just in time for the summer rush
The priority security service is expected to launch at the Costa Blanca hub in June ahead of the busiest months of the year
Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is introducing a fast-track security lane ahead of this summer, giving passengers the option to pay for priority access through the security checkpoint and into the departure area.
The service, which is already available at several of Spain's busiest airports including Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca and Málaga, is expected to launch at Alicante in June.
It won't skip any of the usual security checks, but it will give those who use it a dedicated lane with shorter waiting times, which is particularly useful during the peak morning periods when multiple flights depart in quick succession.
Pricing hasn't been confirmed yet, but it's been described as affordable bit airport services, and it'll be bookable in advance through airlines or arranged on arrival. The dedicated area will be located just a short walk from the main check-in desks and will be clearly signposted.
The fast-track launch follows the recent full roll-out of the Entry/Exit System at the airport, the EU's new biometric registration process for travellers arriving from non-Schengen countries, including the UK.
Airports started to rollout the EES on October 12 last year and requires all non-EU nationals crossing EU external borders to have their entry and exit data registered.
The system got its first serious test at Alicante during Easter week, which saw passenger numbers on some days exceed typical June and July figures.
The rollout has been far from smooth, though, with reports of waits stretching to three hours at some of the country’s busiest airports. Rather than suspend the system as has been done in some parts, Spain’s airport operator AENA has stepped in with a series of practical measures aimed at easing congestion.
British travellers in particular continue to flock to the Costa Blanca in growing numbers, with UK passenger traffic at the airport up 7.1% in 2025, a year that also set an all-time record for overall passenger numbers.
