Aemet has forecast widespread rainclouds for later in the week that will bring temperatures down

Murcia weather forecast, Thursday July 24

Get ready for a rollercoaster of weather this week in the Region of Murcia – from unusually high temperatures on the coast this Monday to rain and thunderstorms to come later in the week, according to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

It will be very hot and sunny with clear skies this Monday July 21. The Region of Murcia is one of the few places in the country under an active weather alert this Monday for extreme heat of up to 39ºC in central Murcia and up to 36ºC in inland parts of the Mar Menor and Cartagena area between 1pm and 9pm.

On Tuesday 22, the temperatures will ease off a bit thanks to the arrival of some cloud cover, at least in inland areas, while on the coast it will still be around 31-33ºC. It will still remain dry and calm, though.

Once again on Wednesday 23, temperatures are due to rise and central Murcia is on yellow alert between the hours of 1pm and 9pm for temperatures reaching up to 38ºC, even if it is a bit cloudier.

It is on Thursday July 24 when the rain is due to arrive in Murcia. Aemet forecasts “very cloudy skies, with showers that may be accompanied by thunderstorms” first thing in the morning, but notes that, though it will be raining pretty much all day, it will stop by the evening.

On Thursday, winds will blow from the east, light inland and moderate to strong on the coast as windspeeds could reach up to 30kmh in San Javier in the morning and in Mazarrón in the afternoon.

As a result of the rainclouds, temperatures will fall across the board, most noticeably in the maximum temperatures for inland areas, which are not forecast to be more than 32ºC – a sheer drop from earlier in the week.

No further rain is currently forecast for Friday or Saturday, but temperatures should remain at the same lowered level for a few days thanks to those rainstorms… so enjoy the brief respite from the heat!
