Torrevieja approves €8.5 million makeover for Los Locos beach promenade
More than 1km of Torrevieja seafront will be pedestrianised as part of the ambitious redevelopment
Torrevieja is set for a major beachfront facelift after the council officially awarded the contract for the long-awaited redevelopment of Los Locos beach promenade.
The project has been handed to construction company PAVASAL for €8.59 million, almost 15% below the original tender price, with work expected to take around 18 months to complete.
Once finished, the overhaul will completely transform one of Torrevieja’s busiest seafront areas, creating wider pedestrian spaces, improved beach access and a greener, more modern promenade designed for year-round use.
The redevelopment covers more than 1,100 metres of coastline and a total surface area of over 21,000 square metres.
Plans include new green areas, additional trees, children’s play parks, outdoor fitness spaces and updated street furniture, all aimed at making the beachfront more attractive and accessible for both residents and tourists.
The project was designed by Valencian architect Juan Ignacio Fuster Marcos and has already been adapted to meet the requirements set out by both the Valencian regional government and Spain’s coastal authorities.
According to councillor Sandra Sánchez, the works will be carried out in four separate phases so different sections can reopen progressively while construction continues elsewhere.
The first stage will focus on the stretch between Calle La Sal and Avenida Habaneras along Avenida La Purísima. The council says this area was chosen first because it is expected to cause the least disruption during the summer tourist season.
Officials have also promised to manage the impact on traffic, businesses, public transport and access to homes and garages throughout the project, particularly given the importance of the area during the peak holiday months.
